Biography
Bernard Burnes is one of the leading international authorities on organisational change. He trained as an engineer and holds a BA (Hons) in Economic and Social History and a PhD in Organisational Psychology. In 1985 he joined the Department of Management Sciences in the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, now a part of Manchester Business School.Bernard has published widely. He is the author of 14 books, including the best-selling Managing Change, which is now in its 4th edition. In addition, he is the editor of the Routledge book series on Understanding Organisational Change, and joint editor of the (forthcoming) Routledge Companion to Organizational Change. He is also the author of over 80 journal articles and book chapters. His article: 'Kurt Lewin and the Planned Approach to Change: A Re-appraisal', Journal of Management Studies, was named as one of the top 50 management articles in the world in 2004. He was editor of the International Journal of Operations and Production Management for nine years, and is Joint Editor of the forthcoming special edition of Management and Organizational History devoted to the work of Kurt Lewin.
Bernard has acted as a consultant/advisor to a wide range of public and private sector organisations and trade unions.
Teaching and Research interests
Bernard's teaching and research covers organisational change in its broadest sense. This includes the history, development and current state of organisational change, organisational and inter-organisational behaviour, leadership, strategy, and culture.Selected Publications
